So, forgive me if this is a stupid question, but just what is the status of Butthole Surfers as a band?

Will we ever see a new release? ...or tour? ...or is it pretty much over and done?

Thanks,

Tim

my friend opened up for them on their last tour and he said they all hated the new album, just wanted to play old songs, and toured and did the album just for the money. so they will probably just get together for a tour ever now and then while pursuing other projects.

What kind of projects?? Any ideas?? I know Leary did the dogs album -- but that is the only BS related project I've seen and that 's older than the newer album -- that I thought had lost a lot of the amazing leads and just the power of Gibbby's voice that was so GORGEOUS on 'Hairway to Steven' -- I want another great one!!
      NOW!!

GET WITH IT YOU BUTTHOLES!! YOU'VE GOT FANS COMING OUT OV BUTTHOLES around the nation!! And be sure and bring your shotgun!! I loved watching Gibby blow people in the front row of "lollipop -a-oser" when they played -- so fun!! I'm a newbie to this group -- but I'm on oldie Buttholes fan -- saw the VERY first tour in 1980 I think?? in Tucon at a biker bar called Tumbleweeds. SCARY place -- Gibby had to shove a couple drunk bikers around -- hilarious!!

gibby also had a project called Jack Officers, it kinda sucked.
i've also heard rumors, but can't confirm they had something to do with Stickmen with Rayguns,WAY WAY Back there.they kicked ass.
as for the current status of the band? i have no idea, i've boycotted them since their pathetic selfish screwing of Touch and Go Records.

Why not since their pathetic, selfish screwing of Alternative Tentacles? Of course, members of the band would probably disagree with you on either of those claims.

Whatever. They tour again, I'll go see them. They still put on a kick ass show in 2001.

their deal with AT was for the one EP only.but Cory let them live in his house when they had nowhere to live, fed them when they were flat broke, and gave them money when their car broke down. on top of giving them a 50/50 cut of all proffits after production costs. nobody but nobody gives you that.

Yup, I've read that. I think it's great that the Surfers own their back catalog now. I don't disagree that Rusk is a nice guy and Gibby's an asshole, but that doesn't mean they should have stuck with a bad deal that they could get out of - and not owning your music is a bad deal.

gibby waqs also in P with johnny depp.

history of dogs by paul leary is by far the best BHS releated side project. that record is mind blowing

History of Dogs is awesome. Daddy Longhead (Jeff Pinkus side project) was okay, too.

I just saw Helios Creed at Annie's, bought his new CD "Deep Blue Love Vaccuum", and it wasn't until I got home and looked at it that I realized that Jeff Pinkus plays bass on it! Also, dunno if they're still around but Jeff's band Areola 51 is great! Honky doesn't really suit me though...
